Your rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, and how to exercise them.
If you are a California resident, the CCPA and CPRA give you the right to direct businesses to stop "selling" or "sharing" your personal information, as those terms are broadly defined under California law. This page explains what that means for SYNE, what we actually do with personal information, and how to submit an opt-out request. It supplements our Privacy Policy and should be read alongside it.
Under the CCPA and CPRA, "sell" is defined broadly to include exchanging personal information for money or other valuable consideration, and "share" specifically covers disclosing personal information to a third party for cross-context behavioural advertising - showing you ads based on your activity across unrelated websites and services. Neither term requires an actual sale of data in the everyday sense of the word for the law to apply.
SYNE does not sell personal information for money. We also do not use personal information collected through the Services for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we do not share personal information with third parties for that purpose.
Certain analytics and functionality providers we use to operate the Services may, under California's broad statutory definitions, technically constitute a "sale" or "share" of limited technical identifiers such as cookie or device IDs - even though no advertising profile is built and no personal information is exchanged for payment. Out of caution, and consistent with our approach to giving you meaningful control, we offer the opt-out described below regardless of how narrowly or broadly those categories might apply to any specific vendor.
If you are a California resident, you have the right to direct us not to sell or share your personal information going forward. Submitting an opt-out request does not affect the accuracy of your account data, and does not require you to close your SYNE account - it only stops the specific data flows described above.
You can submit a Do Not Sell or Share request in any of the following ways:
Cookie Settings. Use the Cookie Settings link in our website footer to opt out of non-essential cookies, including any that fall under California's definition of sale or sharing.
Email. Send a request to privacy@syne.com with the subject line "California Opt-Out Request," including your name and the email address associated with your SYNE account, if any.
Contact form. Submit a request through our Contact Us page, selecting "Something else" as the reason and stating your request clearly.
We will action a verified request within 15 business days, and will not require you to create an account to submit or track it.
To protect against fraudulent requests, we may need to verify your identity before processing an opt-out - typically by confirming the email address associated with your request matches the one on file for your account. Where no account exists, we will use a reasonable, proportionate verification method rather than requesting additional personal information beyond what's necessary.
You may designate an authorized agent to submit an opt-out request on your behalf. We may require the agent to provide proof of your authorization, and may still need to verify your identity directly to protect against fraudulent requests.
Beyond the right to opt out of sale or sharing, California residents also have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion of that information, correct inaccurate information, and limit the use of sensitive personal information. These rights are described in full in our Privacy Policy. We do not discriminate against you for exercising any California privacy right, including the right to opt out described on this page.
We may update this page from time to time to reflect changes in applicable law or our own practices. Where changes are material, we will provide notice through the Services or by other reasonable means before they take effect.
